Women’s Basketball Narrowly Falls to Undefeated Northampton
Paramus, NJ — The Bergen Community College women's basketball team put forth a determined effort against the undefeated Northampton Community College Spartans on Saturday, November 23, but ultimately came up just short, losing 46-43. The loss drops Bergen to 0-7 on the season while Northampton maintains their perfect 6-0 record.
Leading the charge for Bergen was Jacqueline Caraballo, who delivered a stellar double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds, showcasing her dominance in the paint. Ashley Urquia Herrera added 9 points and 8 rebounds, while Ariana Garo filled the stat sheet with 4 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds. Bergen's defense was strong, holding Northampton to just 27.5% shooting from the field.
After a slow start that saw the Bulldogs trailing 29-13 at halftime, the team came alive in the second half. A relentless third-quarter rally trimmed the deficit to 36-28, and Bergen continued to press in the fourth, outscoring Northampton 15-10. Despite their spirited comeback, Bergen fell just shy of victory as time expired.
Northampton's Layla Sweatte led all scorers with 18 points, while Heaven Dubois grabbed an impressive 13 rebounds to anchor the Spartans' defense.
Coach Sean Pekarsky commended the team's effort, stating, "This game proved we can compete with the best. We showed resilience and heart, and we'll use this experience to grow stronger."
